Hot or Hot Garbage? A Look at RB2 Options

Matt Hicks, Staff Writer

If you missed it last week, we introduced you to our Hot or Hot Garbage series. This week we’re moving onto the RB position where things will heat up. Just like last week, “Hot” means they are players who should be started/kept on your roster/you should make a trade for. “Hot Garbage” means you should bench/drop/trade off that player as soon as possible.

Mark Ingram: Hot

Lost amongst the Peterson drama and Kamara hype is a surprisingly consistent Ingram. He’s averaging just over 10 points per game, without scoring a TD. He’s a great flex option in a dynamic offense.

Bilal Powell: Still Hot Garbage

I get it, he had a great run but he wasn’t good before this week, and he won’t be good after it. Don’t be a prisoner of the moment, the Jets will start losing again and Forte will be back.

Jay Ajayi: Hot

Weeks 2 & 3 were underwhelming but that’s directly related to his lack of carries (11.5 per game, compared to 28 in Week 1). The dolphins will get back on track and so will Ajayi. A great trade target.

Joe Mixon: Hot Garbage Sprayed with Lysol

Joe. Mixon. Is. Not. Good. He got 17 total carries in Weeks 1 &2. He got 17 carries in Week 4 and combined for 29 yards. That’s 1.7 yards per rush…against the Browns. He’s yet to get a touchdown and isn’t a viable passing option. For some reason everyone still loves him, but the only argument I ever hear is “mid-season he’s going to become the starter”. There is no starter in Cincy, people, it’s a true RBBC that already has a goal line guy and a PPR guy and neither are Mixon. You can spray all the “Tropical Breeze” you want on Mixon but he’s still a gallon of rotten milk. I’ve never been a fan of Mixon, and I haven’t been proved wrong yet.

Lamar Miller: Hot

Miller has benefited greatly from Watson’s offensive success. Watson’s ability to throw and run the ball has taken the focus off Miller. He’s got 33 carries 5 receptions and 2 total TDs the last two weeks.

Mike Gillislee: Hot Garbage

It was cool while it lasted Mike, but you’re no longer popular in New England. Just 7 fantasy points and no TDs for a TD dependent fantasy option. He’s getting diluted by another true RBBC. Not worth a start.

Alvin Kamara: Hot

He’s been more of a WR than a RB this season, but he’s turned into a sneaky flex. He has 7 carries for 52 yards and 1 TD over the last two weeks, but that’s combined with 13 receptions for 76 yards and a TD. He’s worth investing in cheap, especially in dynasty formats.
