DFS Basketball: December 18th Slate

Ken Mahoney, Contributor from Turning 2 Sports (@Turning2Sports)

Welcome back! It’s time for another DFS Basketball preview, brought to you by Turning Two Sports, where we DO care about your fantasy team!

In order to set a perfect lineup on DraftKings, we want to look for players who will provide 5x their salary in returning point output. So if Steph Curry comes in at $9,000 and James Harden comes in at $9,600, Curry needs 45 points to return value while Harden needs 48. To think about it on the fly, just do this:

(Salary * .001 * 5) <= DFS Points

Now with that said, here is the overall record for the season. I’m considering a miss as anything less than 4x value (Blue snowflake on DraftKings). A hit is anything at or above 5x value (Red flame on DraftKings). Displayed below is the format “Hits – Misses”

Season Record: 134-77 (63.5% hit rate)

Top Game Stack: Golden State Warriors @ Los Angeles Lakers (+5.5): Over/Under 218

Point Guard

Kemba Walker $7,100 – Kemba is in a great spot tonight as he’s presented with Jarret Jack and the Knicks. The Knicks are technically the 4th worst team in terms of fantasy points allowed over on DraftKings, so I really like the price discount we’re getting by locking in Kemba right away. Target: 35.5

Donovan Mitchell $6,700 – Mitchell is seeing a major uptick in usage when Gobert is off the floor. The Jazz are an entirely different team, as their pace significantly increases without him. He’s been over 30 DK points in five of his last 6, and has done so in three straight since Gobert went down. Mitchell will continue to be a great way to pay mid salary price for a high ceiling player in a great spot. Target: 33.5

Shooting Guard

Klay Thompson $7,000 – As you’ve already read, Golden State and the Lakers is my favorite matchup of the night to stack. Klay will have himself close to 40 minutes to net 35 points in our DraftKings lineups. Draymond Green will remain out along with Steph Curry, leaving guys like McCaw, Casspi, West, and Bell to all see an increase in minutes. But none of them can do what Klay can and will do. Target: 35

Yogi Ferrell $5,000 – We may be running out of time to play Ferrell in GPP lineups until his price goes down. The return of DSJ is imminent, meaning Yogi will return to a bench role. Tonight, DSJ has already been ruled out. That means Yogi has himself one more start at the very least. That start happens to come against Phoenix, arguably the worst team in the league against opposing point guards. Assuming Ferrell starts, which I imagine he will, lock him in. His price is at a season high, but he’s coming off a 44 point DK performance against the Spurs in 39 minutes. His matchup tonight is even better. Target: 25

Small Forward

Kevin Durant $11,600 – Sticking with the same game, KD is my favorite big money play of the night. Without Curry in the lineup, KD has been a monster. He warrants the plus 11k salary. He’s coming off a 65 DK point performance, in addition to a 52, 73, and 72 point performance. Arguably his matchup with the Lakers will be his best one as of late, with a spread of only 6 and the highest over/under of the night. Target: 58

Power Forward

Jordan Bell $4,500 – I wouldn’t want to be the guy to bench Jordan Bell in a fantastic spot against the soft Lakers frontcourt. He’s now producing more than 1 point per minute, and should be in every single lineup across the board until Draymond Green returns. He has limitless upside as long as he receives minutes, and I think he approaches 30 minutes tonight. The Warriors are very shorthanded. Target: 22.5

Richaun Holmes $4,100 – Embiid is out tonight for rest purposes, so you know what that means. Holmes will immediately be on the streaming radar. Trevor Booker has already been ruled out as well, so guys like Saric and Amir Johnson may see an uptick in minutes. But as usual, fantasy’s most valuable handcuff will be a must-play tonight against the Bulls, who rank in the bottom ten for fantasy points allowed for big men. Target: 20.5

Ekpe Udoh $3,700 – I really like what Udoh offers tonight. Between Holmes, Bell, and Udoh, you can have yourself a fantastic GPP lineup start. They’ll all allow you to spend up elsewhere, and all three come in at an absolute bargain. Udoh isn’t always a reliable scorer, in fact he hardly ever scores. He is, however, a block machine when Gobert is out. He received 33 minutes and 29 minutes in the two most recent Gobert absences. In his last game, he went off for 40 DK points for 13x value!!! In the game before that, he went for 6x value. DraftKings really needs to pick the price up. Play him until they do. Target: 18.5

Also Consider: Dario Saric $5,800

Lineup 1:

PG – Kemba Walker $7,100

SG – Klay Thompson $7,000

SF – Kevin Durant $11,600

PF – Jordan Bell $4,500

C – Ekpe Udoh $3,700

G – Donovan Mitchell $6,700

F – Richaun Holmes $4,100

U – Yogi Ferrell $5,000

Best of luck everyone. Thanks for reading and appreciate the support. Go make some money!
