This short article is the fifth in a growing series of guys that I am going to be higher on than most. I will discuss some of the combine measurements, some of the tape, and just give an overall prognosis of what I am hoping for from these guys, and of course, where I am looking to take them in a rookie draft.
The stories at the combine surrounded Saquon Barkley and Nick Chubb, but another back may have boosted his draft stock pretty significantly. Bo Scarbrough had a very solid combine running a 4.52 in the 40 at 228 lbs and showing significant explosiveness with a 40” vert and a position leading 10’9” broad jump.
Scarbrough backed up his tape showing us that he has the body and the talent to play in the NFL. This strong showing could coax a team to take a chance on him as early as round 4. One thing that is often brought up about Scarbrough is that he is one-dimensional or that he isn’t a pass catcher. While I will not argue that he is a third down back, I will only float out the information that he was second on the team in receptions last year at Alabama with 17. This isn’t super impressive by any means, and though he was not terribly efficient with those catches, he showed that he is competent coming out of the backfield. This adds a wrinkle to his game that makes me feel better about his chances in the NFL.
He can stay on the field in passing situations both as a blocker and as a legitimate threat to catch the ball while still around the line of scrimmage. I am going to be high on Scarbrough going forward as I see a lot of similarities in his play style with Derrick Henry. Also, looking strictly at the numbers, Scarbrough is a similar quality athlete to Henry as well which leads me to believe he won’t have much trouble carving out a role for himself at the next level.
All things considered I think Scarbrough is a sleeper in this draft who will provide plenty of value for the price. I have him as my RB12 currently. I will be looking for him in mid to late 2nd of fantasy drafts.
