Week 4 Quarterback Streaming Options

Last Week’s Results: Last week had a lot of unexpected results for QBs; Kirk Cousins was a huge disappointment in a great match up. Tom Brady disappointed, but the Patriots also only have 3 WRs active. Baker Mayfield and Josh Rosen made their debuts, while Josh Allen was surprisingly successful. My pick of Blake Bortles was a huge disappointment in an ugly game against Tennessee where he only scored 8.9 points bringing the weekly average point total for my top choice down to 16.32 through the first 3 weeks of the season. Hopefully if you streamed last week you were in one of the leagues where Ryan Fitzpatrick as available and you used him as I suggested.

Week 4 has the 1st bye weeks so now it is time where the streaming will begin to matter, a top option in Cam Newton is unavailable and here are my choices if you need to stream to replace him:

Main Streaming Option: Andy Dalton

This pick is made under the assumption that AJ Green is healthy enough to play, if he is ruled out I would move Dalton down a few spots in my rankings and go with the 1st alternate listed next. Dalton has been a viable QB option for fantasy and I believe it will continue. In his bad week last week he still put up 18 fantasy points. This week he is playing an Atlanta defense that has been far from impressive ranking as 4th worst against QBs so far this season, and that includes a game against Nick Foles and a deleted Eagles offense. Not only is this a great match up for Dalton, he finally has more weapons at this disposal than AJ Green. Tyler Boyd has emerged as a WR he can trust, Gio catches the ball out of the back field and Tyler Eifert has been more involved being on the field for over 64% of snaps the last 2 weeks and being targeted 8 times in week 3. The game has an over under of 51 which is tied for the 2nd highest of the week, I expect there to be a lot of points scored and Dalton to continue his strong fantasy season.

Alternate 1: Case Keenum

Keenum was my choice in week 2 and he disappointed, but this week he faces the Chiefs on Monday night. The Chiefs are the 2nd worst against QBs so far this season and the defense has not given up less than 27 points in a game so far this season. The Chiefs’ offense has been explosive and it has forced teams to put the ball in the air to keep up with them. Denver is a middle of the road pass defense so far this season so I do not expect them to slow this offense down. Vegas agrees as this game has the highest over under of the week at 56 points.  Keenum is going against a bad pass defense in what should be a high scoring game, this is the perfect situation for a streaming QB, the game has the bonus of being on Monday night so as long as you are not up against a lot of Chiefs or Broncos you get to have that last chance if the matchup is within reach after Sunday. I always find it fun to have someone to root for in the Monday night game.

Alternate 2: Ryan Tannehill

The Dolphins have been one of the surprises of the young season. Tannehill has been a success throwing for multiple TDs in all 3 games so far this season. They are playing the Patriots who are coming off of 2 bad losses and have not looked good on defense. This is a game where the Patriots need to try to make a statement after people are starting to doubt them, but that could mean it is a higher scoring affair. Tannehill has shown a connection with Kenny Stills and Albert Wilson has proven to be a big play weapon. Tannehill has the ability to add some points with his legs as well if the play breaks down. If you are in a 2 QB league or you own Cam and the other options are gone you plug in Tannehill and you won’t be disappointed. The Patriots’ defense just lost Bently to IR which will only help the Dolphins’ offense.

Time to see if my choices get back on track, the match ups this week are providing some great streaming options. If you really need to go deep plugging in Baker Mayfield against as a last resort is another possibility. The Raiders’ defense has been beatable and I would expect the Browns to put in a game plan to put Baker in positive situations in his first start. Check back next week for more streaming options.
